The W.M. Keck Foundation Biotechnology Resource Laboratory was founded in 1980 as the Yale University School of Medicine Protein and Nucleic Acid Chemistry Facility. In 1987 this unit became associated with HHMI; in 1991 it was moved into 3,200 square feet of space on the third and fourth floors of the newly constructed Boyer Center for Molecular Medicine, whereupon it became the W.M. Keck Foundation Biotechnology Resource Laboratory; and in 1997 it joined with the Mass Spectrometry Resource in the Comprehensive Cancer Center. Since its founding the Keck Facility has been self-supporting with respect to recovering its operating expenses from user fees.

The Harvard Microchemistry & Proteomics Analysis Facility provides strategic consulting and technologies in proteomics analysis for the Harvard community and researchers worldwide. We use microcapillary LC-MS/MS on 3D and linear ion traps; MALDI-TOF and hybrid quadrupole-TOF mass spectrometers; Edman and C-term sequencing. We also drive a cross-disciplinary software development program to advance bioinformatics tools for enhancing our analyses.

The Taplin Biological Mass Spectrometry Facility opened in February 2001 as a core facility for the analysis of proteins and peptides by mass spectrometry. The facility is focused on serving the needs of investigators at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and all the Harvard affiliated Institutions. These include the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Children's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, The CBR Institute for Biomedical Research, and the N.E. Regional Primate Center, among others. Our priority is to serve the HMS and its affiliated hospitals but we are capable of serving outside universities and institutions.
