TSQ Vantage Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer

This is our TSQ Vantage Triple Quadrupole mass spectrometer. We use this for Targeted proteomics applications. If you have a protein you think is expressed in a complex mixture of other proteins, or you want to relatively quantitate the amount of your protein of interest, we can use this mass spectrometer to do this. Using Multiple reaction monitoring, it is more sensitive than our other mass spectrometers, but you need to know what you are looking for..

Targeted Proteomics Applications

LTQ1

This is a Thermo Scientific LTQ Mass Spectrometer with a Michrom Paradigm HPLC, CTC Pal autosampler and a Michrom Vacuum Spray ionization source. This is our main Work horse for protein identification.

For more information Please see

Thermo-Scientific LTQ XL

LTQ2

This is our Second Thermo Scientific LTQ Mass Spectrometer with a Michrom Paradigm HPLC, CTC Pal autosampler and a Michrom Vacuum Spray ionization source. This is our main Work horse for protein identification. This one is also set up to do Mudpit using a 1 mm SCX Column

For more information Please see

Thermo-Scientific LTQ XL

LTQ-FT Ultra

This is our LTQ-FT Ultra Hybrid Mass Spectrometer. It is a hybrid linear iontrap Fourrier transform ion cyclotron mass spectrometer (FT-ICR). It has very high resolution and accuracy (2-5 parts per million) . We use this mass spectrometer for post-translational modificaiton work and to do differential mass spectrometry profiling (dMS). Don't worry we don't actually use that Surveyor (aka Survivor) HPLC. That is metabolomic core’s. Usually we have our Nano-Acquity as the Front end

Hitachi 8800 One of Our amino acid analyzers. Currently set up to measure amino acids in hydrolyzed samples

Hitachi 8900 Our Other Amino acid analyzer. Currntly set up to measure amino acids in physiological samples

ABI Procise 494 Edman Sequencers

Our two N-terminal sequencers. If you need to know the n-terminus of your protein, there are very few other options. As far as we know, we are the only UC Campus in northern California that still Does N-terminal sequencing. Jack Presley in the facility has over 15 years experience doing this.

Clean Hoods

We use these clean hoods to minimize keratin and extraneous protein contamination. They are quite Nice. We take precautions to minimize Keratin in the lab, but sometimes Keratin is unavoidable as it walks in with the samples on occasion. If you're seeing a lot of Keratin Contamination, give us a call, we can suggest some things to decrease it

Nano-Drop UV

This is our Nano-Drop UV spec. We use it to get a rough estimate of gross protein concentration in our samples. It works on 1-2 ul of sample which is nice.

CEM Scientific Microwave THis Microwave can be used to do  enzyme digests rapidly and can lead to greater coverage of your digested proteins in some cases. Works well in our hands.
